All settling into life well here in the “Far North”. Philippa and Ernie have settled into both the routines and challenges of school and work respectively, and Harry and Lesley have settled into their routine. We are all looking forward to the weather cooling down a little and expect this to happen soon. Already the max temperatures rarely rise above 31C, unfortunately the min temps are rarely below 24C.

Below are a couple of pictures showing the pool and back yard, and our large verandah where we cook and eat quite frequently. You should view these as an invitation to visit.

Last weekend we took the opportunity to explore some of the local sights. Many of the parks still have trails shut after Yasi, but Barron Gorge (near Kuranda) had some open. Beautiful morning with masses of water in the river and over the falls.
Some pictures of the family.

Well here in Far North Queensland for three and a half weeks and mostly loving it. Furniture only arrived last week, and we had just settled in when we had warning of the big blow. Cyclone Yasi was really quite large and thought to be approximately 1000Km in diameter and winds of 290Km/hr. We stayed with friends who had a cyclone shelter, but fortunately did not need it. No electricity, and much of the garden in the pool is a small price to pay. P has been out scooting and building sandcastles briefly. Still very wet here and quite windy here though- since 9am (post cyclone) we have had 261 mm (>10 inches) of rain. Some pictures from the lead up to the cyclone, and post-cyclone

Hot on the heels of the arrival of young Harry, we have moved up to Far North Queensland to Cairns Northern Beaches. This is a move of approximately 3000 Kms north and a change in latitude of 21°. We are presently in a furnished holiday apartment across the road from the beach as our furniture has been delayed, due to flood further south which have disrupted road and rail traffic. Ernie starts work tomorrow at the new dental school at James Cook University, and Philippa will start school in about 2 weeks. Some photos of the family courtesy of friends who put us up for the few days before the flight, and some of the new area.

Well the young man has only one more night away from home. Below is a relatively rare picture of the young man with his eyes open. Is he thinking about food?

After Philippa’s last day a kinder, we headed down to see mum and young Harry. It was a beautiful day (a balmy 26C) so we wondered out to a small courtyard on the same floor, and enjoyed mango smoothies- getting ready for our tropical move in a few weeks. Here are some photos including one of Lesley.

At 3:07 pm (Melbourne time) young Harry took in his first lung full of sweet Melbourne air. He weighed in at 3.665 Kg. Both he and Lesley are well. Young Philippa was very excited to meet her baby brother. Some photos attached.

A fantastic spring day, so we spend a good deal of time in garden (and dug out the camera again). Some photos on young P in the garden and on the trampoline.
